It’s all about apples this week here at Enjoy the Learning Journey and I’ll be sharing some fun hands-on ways your children can learn about apples.
If you have any apple orchards within a reasonable driving distance from your home I would highly recommend packing the family up and taking a weekend outing to the apple orchard. What better way to celebrate fall then by spending time outside together as a family, smelling the sweet aroma of apples and burning off some kid-energy by having them work a little to get their food?
We went for the first time this past weekend and the kids had a blast. Afterwards, I thought that we really should have gone several years ago. It would have been perfect to go during Snootz’s fruit-loving phase. When he was two years old he had an obsession with fruit and had to carry a piece of fruit around with him at all times. If we went anywhere he had to bring a piece of fruit with him, whether it be an apple, orange, plum, pear or some other roundish piece of fruit. “To eat?“, you ask. No, just to hold. There is no explanation for it. It was a Snootz thing. But that’s another story.
Here is a peak into our family outing to the apple orchard. I hope you and your family have an opportunity to go too.
I would love for you to share your story about going to the apple orchard or ways that your family likes to celebrate fall.
