As homeschoolers, we have a lot on our plates, so the thought of having to try and get everything organized and in order can be very overwhelming. Some days we can barely get through our lessons, much less master organization!
Organization. This thing that we strive for yet don’t always achieve. It’s great when we have it but stressful when we don’t.
I know for me, when I see photos of someone’s completely organized homeschool room and perfect-looking homeschool schedule, I think it looks lovely and appealing but a bit hard to relate to. I think, “Our homeschool space looks a lot different. It’s kind of……lived in.” With books and games and scraps of paper often scattered about, it’s a used and loved space. And that’s okay for a short time but when weeks go by and the mess continues and things get completely out of order, it can cause a lot of stress and anxiety. Especially if I never really felt that organized to begin with.
Over the years, I have learned that homeschool organization is possible but it’s never going to be perfect. We have constant papers and materials to contend with and we live in our school. Or our school is in our home. However you want to look at it. 🙂
An organized space is not the be all end all but it can definitely help us feel more calm, more focused and more joy while we homeschool. And that’s something we all want, right?!
So, how do we achieve this?
Homeschool Organization that Works for You
Well, we can achieve organization at the level that works best for each of us. But the key is…. “at the level that works best for each of us”. That means that an organized homeschool is going to look different for each of us.
Some homeschoolers will strive to have a homeschool with a very organized space and a schedule that is great for sharing Pinterest. Others will want something close but are ok with a bit of a lived in look, as long as they can find the materials they need. And others will just work to have some materials organized with a loose schedule – and once that is in place they are ok with everything else.
