This week Snootz tasted the sweetness of success. He has been working for almost a year on All About Spelling Level 1 and from the beginning he was totally committed to completing it. We started the program last September and he has been working on it consistently since then. We took a couple of long breaks over the winter and spring but generally he worked on it 3-5 times per week. That’s a lot of time and energy for a then four now five-year-old to be putting into something!
His excitement and the smile on his face when he finished the last of 24 steps in the program was a great moment to see. I was so proud of him but more importantly he was so proud of himself. There is no praise anyone could give him or external reward he could ever receive that would beat the internal sense of accomplishment he felt. It was a great moment for me too. To see him so joyful and proud about his accomplishment and to see him realize that all his hard work paid off. He did it! 🙂
Snootz learned so much, including the phonograms for all the letters (the different sounds that each letter makes), counting syllables, vowels, consonants, some spelling rules and he learned how to spell A LOT of different words. There are 170 spelling words and approximately 298 additional practice words for level 1. Snootz did all of them so that is a grand total of 468 words!!
Snootz enjoyed the spelling program so much and I love it too since it uses a hands on approach with a magnetic board & letter tiles in addition to writing words. So we will continue to use it for this next year as Snootz advances to All About Spelling Level 2. I will be adding the All About Learning Press reading programs this year; Snootz will use All About Reading Level 2 and Kitty and Tootsie will use All About Reading Pre-Reading.
I’m looking forward to continuing to cheer on my three learners this year and watching their hard work pay off.
GREAT job!!! I’m so proud of you!!!
