We have a few Peanuts lovers in our home who are so excited for The Peanuts Movie to come out. They’ve been watching the old Peanuts movies and our son has been reading Peanuts comics any chance he can get.
With all the Peanuts hype I knew it was time to put together a little Peanuts learning fun. And with Halloween approaching, what better book and movie to use than It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!
Our girls are five-years-old and doing kindergarten work here at home. They are learning some basic addition and subtraction skills and so I put together a fun pumpkin addition math mat for them.
Before beginning the activity, we read the book together.
I printed and laminated the pages from the printable pack and then we began working on some pumpkin addition.
Items for set up:
- Peanuts Bowl
or large Peanuts mug
to hold the mellowcreme candy (of course it doesn’t have to be Peanuts ~ you can use whatever works for you)
- Brach’s Mellowcreme Pumpkins Candy
(I included printable pumpkins in the packet in case you don’t want to buy the candy)
- Orange paper bag
to hold the numbers (I cut the top 1/2 off to make it shorter)
- Printable pack (laminate for durability ~ I use this laminator
)
Here are the instructions (these are also included in the free printable pack):
Here is a peek into the activity in action:
I think the girls’ favorite part of the activity was eating a few of the pumpkins when they were done! 🙂
