Today was a really special day as Snootz began his first day of First Grade and Kitty and Tootsie began 4K. They were all so excited for their first day of the school year and it warmed my heart to see their happiness and excitement for learning.
Today was an answer to prayer as I felt a sense of peace that I haven’t felt for weeks. I’ve experienced uncertainty this summer as to whether or not homeschooling would be the best option for all of us this year. Questions have cropped up from others, and from myself, about what is best for our children and at times I’ve felt uncertain and insecure. I guess it’s just hard to be different and do something different from what most everyone else is doing.
After, once again, considering all the pros and cons and praying about it, we decided to stick with it for this year. And I must say that our decision was confirmed as I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the school year. It wasn’t perfect, since it was raining and we are all sick with colds, but everyone held up amazingly well for most of the day and the kids were happy. Our new curriculum seems like it will be a good fit. And for me, seeing our three children thrive while learning at home was a reminder of all the things I love about homeschooling and why we decided to do it in the first place.
A look into the day…..
Tootsie Pop loved the My Little Pony activities from 1+1+1=1.
Kitty Cat and I worked on the new Melissa and Doug geoboard together. It was such a huge hit with all three kids that it resulted in a bit of fighting over who was going to get a turn next.
Check out Snootz’s blue lips. Do you think he enjoyed his ring pop?
After lots of back and forth about whether or not I should even continue this blog I have decided to continue, BUT it will mainly be for myself and our family so we can remember the school year. I had originally launched the blog to share activity ideas and details of our journey with others but since my free time is so limited I am having to make some choices. So, you may notice photos that aren’t edited, writing that’s mediocre and even some errors but I need to free myself from perfection so that I can post things quickly and there’s at least something to look at when we come to the end of the year. I also enjoy writing so this will be a place for me to practice my writing skills (if I can find the time).
Best wishes for a wonderful 2014-2015 school year and I will post our curriculum choices later this week!
Looks like you’re all off to a great start! Have fun learning from your wonderful teacher!
