Simple crafts are my cup of tea. Complex crafts that take too long are not. I like to keep it quick and simple, while keeping the fun factor in tact.
My five-year-old girls love cute crafts. Love. And my eight-year-old son likes only the simple quick kind. All three of them really enjoy making things they can give to the people they love.
And this puffy paint heart craft fits the bill. It’s cute, simple, fun, expresses love and allows for some creativity too, as children can decide how they want to decorate and what they want their heart to say.
There is glitter involved which can be a pain to clean up but you can always skip the glitter if you want. Our kiddos are old enough that they won’t make a total mess with it so it worked fine for us.
These puffy paint hearts are perfect for Valentine’s Day. But really they could be made any time of year so your children can tell someone special in their lives how much they care about them.

No photo of this but I think you know how to cut a heart out of poster board. I used a pencil to draw a big heart and then cut.
Step 2: Mix 1 bottle or 1/2 cup of Elmer’s school glue with 1 cup of shaving cream.
Step 3: Add red food coloring and mix.
Step 4: Gently paint your heart (if you use to much pressure or use quick back and forth brush strokes you will lose the puffy look of the paint).
Step 5: Sprinkle your heart with glitter.
Step 6: Add letter stickers and embellishments to decorate your heart.
Voila!
(The last photo shows the craft when it was completely dry. I let the heart sit and dry for about 24 hours. You can see that it lost some of the “swoopy” look but it definitely still looks puffy.)
