How have you been doing writing in your Gratitude Journal? Has you been keeping up with it? Has it been helpful to you?
In addition to writing in my gratitude journal this month I’ve been trying to focus on the things that I am thankful for as I go throughout my day. If my mind starts to wander into the land of “things would be better if……” I am trying to consciously turn my thoughts onto what amazing things the Lord has blessed me with in order to avoid that negative downward spiral of thought which often results in a grumpy attitude.
Do you ever have that happen to you as you begin to think about what you wish would’ve happened, or how nice it would have been if your husband did x, y or z, or how much better life would be if only such and such person would just treat you a certain way?
For me, it starts with a little thought and if I ponder it for a while it begins to grow and then that thinking turns into other thinking about how that person did me wrong and before you know it I’m crabby and probably even angry.
It’s important to guard our thoughts, friends. And so when I realize that I’m pondering that negative (sometimes sinful) thought longer than I should, then I know I need to turn my thoughts elsewhere. So where do I need to go? Turning to Scripture is absolutely the answer to how we can always direct our minds towards Truth.
Phillippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Which brings me back to Scripture memorization.
Last week I talked about my realization of the importance of memorizing Scripture so you can read all about that here.
As we are focusing on gratitude this month, I included a free printable of the Bible verse we were working on.
It was from Psalm 95:2 and you can click on the graphic to be taken to last week’s post.
This week’s Bible verse is also about giving thanks to the Lord and is from the book of 1 Thessalonians.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (NKJV)
